National Grid

A cosy staff room for 28,000

An oldie now, but this project holds a special place in my affections as it was the first project that gave me an opportunity to lead and manage a number of other designers.

Thanks to acquisitions and sheer growth, National Grid had four intranet systems that reflected the complexity of the organisation and the diversity of its’ departments. Our brief was to take these four systems and best of their content onto one unified intranet that would provide a sense of community to all 28,000 employees of National Grid, encouraging peer to peer engagement and collaboration.

The creative approach was to retain and build on the visual language that had already been defined by the team for nationalgrid.com. The design language is clean and spacious but peppered with strokes of bright colour, which are used to delineate types of content and add personality.
